Yohan Henry is a musician, artist, and producer from the Commonwealth of Dominica. Born to a musical family, He was named after German classical composer, Johan Sebastien Bach. A self-taught musician, he practiced as a child & premiered on electric bass in church at 5 years old.
At 8, Yohan began composing MIDI sequences on his dad’s computer and went on to track instrumentals and guitars for artists including Goodwill ambassador Kanvee Adams and Grammy winner Gramps Morgan.
He premiered as a vocalist, songwriter & guitarist at 11 years old with “the sea of forgetfulness”, a ballad reminiscent of Phil Collins’ “In the air tonight” at the Canefield Gospel Mission Church.
At 14, Yohan began touring with “Brotherz of Deztiny”, culminating in a performance at the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies Youth Conference in St. Lucia with 9x Marlin Awardee & Stellar Nominee Sherwin Gardner.
At 18, He served as musician and worship artist at “New Day” Fellowship church. This led to his premiere as 7-year house guitarist at the “Zion Praise – Gospel Explosion” festival, accompanying artists such as 8x Marlin Awardee Joel “Positive” Murray.
At 21, he travelled to London, U.K. with New Day Fellowship leaders to sing at the Lifeline Network International Conference.
Later, Yohan released “A song for you” to acclaim on local radio. The album was chosen as “Gospel album of the year (2015)” in “The Sun” Newspaper, a national publication. This opened the door to serve as webmaster, news anchor & DJ at Voice of Life Radio, garnering the name “DJ-YO”. His single “Pray” was selected as the “Peak song” at Kairi FM radio.
He founded “The Familee” band and headlined at the “Gospel 2 Di Streetz”, “Unity Praise” and “Fun under the Sun” festivals before thousands of patrons.
Yohan also shot a music video for “Thankful”, which aired on local TV stations. This opened the door to create and host the “More Life TV” show on CBN4 News Network.
Moving to Texas to complete a B.A. in Marketing, Yohan played at venues between Oklahoma & Houston. His vocal performance of “Alive” at the Caribfest Soca show was covered in “The Wichitan” newspaper.
Post graduation he became an insurance agent in South Florida while serving as a drummer for Encounters church in Davie, Fl. Yohan then moved to Tallahassee to pursue a Master’s in Information Technology from Florida State University. A chance meeting with veteran guitarist Tim Clarke opened the door to join “Tallahassee Nights live”, an organization of musical excellence headed by the visionary, Darius “Doc D” Baker.
Since then, Yohan has covered material from guitar greats like Eddie Van Halen, Slash, and Carlos Santana. He has also vocally covered material from artists such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Bob Marley and Chris Brown.
Yohan has met, shared the stage with, performed for, or produced for celebrities including: Doug E. Fresh, MC Lyte, Tweet, T-Pain, Jacquees, Kendra Foster, John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin, Todd Dulaney, Kelontae Gavin, J. Moss, Pastor Jamal Bryant, Billy Dean, Mr. Vegas, Damian Marley, Patrice Roberts, and Jeter Jones.
He continues to hone his craft, with gratitude for every opportunity to touch lives with the gift of music.
